If you've perhaps been out of the country or living under a rock, then perhaps you still haven't heard that local bowling phenom Joe Novara recently finished the 2021 Summer Doubles League at Port Jeff Bowl on Long Island, NY with an astonishing 262 average.
What makes this accomplishment so absolutely incredible is that it's actually higher than the highest ever recorded average in USBC history, that belonging to Jeff Carter of Springfield, Ill, who finished the 2000-01 5-man winter league with a 261.7 average. However, according to USBC rules, for an average to be considered the "highest," the bowler must have bowled a mandatory 66 games, which Novara did not, as the league was only 13 weeks of 4 games per week. And while Novara's average technically is not considered the highest by USBC standards because of that caveat, it should be noted that he actually bowled 100% of all possible games without missing one. In my opinion, this alone should be considered when discussing highest league average of all time. But hey . . . what do I know!
With that said, we at Bowlage.com have decided to provide an in-depth analysis of Novara's accomplishment with a detailed, statistical breakdown of the numbers just so you guys and gals can truly and fully understand the magnitude of this feat. So without further ado:
